A coffee table is one of the most frequently used wood surfaces in the home. Drinks, books, trays, remote controls, sunlight, and daily cleaning all affect the finish, so simple preventive habits make a real difference.
These tips are useful for the pieces in our handmade wooden coffee table collection.
Dust with a soft cloth
Regular dusting keeps grit from accumulating on the surface. Use a soft clean cloth and avoid rough materials that can create fine scratches.
Wipe spills quickly
Standing water can mark many wood finishes. Blot spills promptly and dry the area rather than leaving moisture to evaporate on the surface.
Use coasters and trays
Coasters protect against rings from glasses and mugs. A tray is useful when several drinks, candles, or decorative objects are used together.
Avoid placing very hot objects directly on the table
Use a heat-resistant mat or trivet. Heat can affect the finish even when the wood itself is structurally sound.
Be careful with harsh cleaners
Strong household products can dull or alter furniture finishes. Use a cleaner suitable for the specific finish and test unfamiliar products discreetly.
Manage direct sunlight
Long exposure to strong sunlight can influence color over time. If the table sits directly beside a bright window, consider curtains, blinds, or occasional repositioning of decorative objects.
Do not over-polish
More product does not automatically mean more protection. Excess polish or incompatible oils can leave buildup. Follow the care needs of the existing finish.
Protect inlaid and detailed surfaces
Decorative tables may combine grain, inlay, or mosaic-like woodwork. Clean gently around seams and avoid allowing liquid to remain in detailed areas.
Move objects instead of dragging them
Lift heavy decor, trays, and sculptures rather than sliding them across the surface. Felt pads can help under decorative objects that stay in place.
Style without covering the craftsmanship
Leave some of the wood visible. A handmade table with expressive grain or inlay does not need to be completely covered by accessories.
